Indian telecom service provider, Bharti Airtel has selected Nokia Siemens Networks to build and operate its TD-LTE network in Maharashtra, one of the country’s largest telecom circles. The launch of commercial TD-LTE services is planned later this year. Bharti Airtel will deploy its TD-LTE network in the 2.3 GHz frequency band.

ZTE and 3 Sweden today presented a live interactive video demonstration using TD-LTE technology at Mobile World Congress 2012. The ZTE booth at the Barcelona is connected with a 3 Sweden store in Stockholm for this demo.

Alcatel-Lucent and China Mobile have signed a co-creation agreement under which teams from the two companies are conducting joint development and test activities on a series of lightRadio projects at Alcatel-Lucent’s Stuttgart lab. This collaboration will speed the introduction of the lightRadio product prototype to the second half of the year.

African operator Movicel has signed a commercial contract for LTE FDD 1.8 GHz  network with Huawei. Movicel will deploy LTE FDD network in province Cabinda, Angola and will commercialize it by the end of May this year.

Telefonica today introduced live experience of Smart 4G network at the Mobile World Congress. The network deploys 2.6Ghz frequency band and provides download speeds of 100 Mbps, between 40-60Mbps on upload, says operator.

Ericsson and Qualcomm will demonstrate evolved Broadcast over LTE (Multimedia Broadcast Multicast Services, eMBMS) at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2012 in Barcelona. eMBMS enables more efficient use of available spectrum and mobile networks.

ITU wants mobile operators worldwide to quickly deploy IMT-Advanced based mobile broadband network. In addition it is also urging governments to slash or even abolish onerous taxes on ICT equipment and services that could stifle the future growth of the mobile sector.

From 2005 until 1H 2011, Ericsson has made the most approved contributions to the LTE RAN standard, according to ABI Research. Nokia and Nokia Siemens Networks together had the second highest number of contributions, followed by Huawei. Companies work within standards groups to make contributions, which are approved through voting.

Japanese operator eAccess will launch commercial LTE service next month. Operator has set initial LTE data service price of 3,880 yen per month. According to eAccess, its LTE service will have 40% population coverage by end of March this year and will reach to 70% in the end of March 2013.

To deliver high quality mobile broadband voice and data services, telecommunications service provider Telenor has selected small cells technology from Alcatel-Lucent. Under a new global frame agreement, Alcatel-Lucent will provide Telenor with  small cell base stations to support its customers.

T-Mobile USA plans to invest $4 billion in network modernization and 4G evolution effort, which will improve its existing voice and data coverage and pave the way for LTE service in 2013. Operator's LTE roadmap assumes successful refarming of spectrum and regulatory approval of AT&T break-up spectrum transfer. 

UK’s Everything Everywhere has outlined the path toward the roll out of 4G LTE. Subject to regulatory approval by the spring, operator is ready to roll out 4G this year. Everything Everywhere has planned 4G LTE trials using 1800MHz band in Bristol from April.

NEC has launched new indoor LTE Femtocell base stations for telecom carriers. The base stations will be available in the second quarter of 2012. The new product is available in two models, one designed for enterprise and another for residential customers.
