Sequans Communications
Sequans Communications is a 4G chipmaker, supplying LTE and WiMAX chips to wireless equipment and device manufacturers worldwide. Founded in 2003 to address the WiMAX market, the company expanded in early 2009 to address the LTE market. Sequans is based in Paris, France with additional offices throughout the world, including United States, United Kingdom, Israel, Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, and China.
SEQUANS’ LTE development program was launched in 2009 and is backed by Motorola and Alcatel-Lucent. Sequans is applying its significant WiMAX experience and proven methodologies to the development of LTE and will introduce its LTE semiconductor solutions to the market in the near future.
The first appearance of Sequans’ LTE technology was as part of the world’s first TD-LTE demonstration network, deployed by China Mobile, for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai, beginning May and running through October of 2010. China Mobile selected Sequans to provide TD-LTE chips and USB dongles for the ground-breaking network to provide advanced mobile services to Expo visitors.
Sequans' first LTE SQN3000 series chip is a baseband (MAC and PHY) LTE chip for LTE end user devices. The SQN3010 delivers wireless broadband connectivity for fully mobile broadband applications. It is designed for the smallest of mobile devices, such as mobile handsets, smartphones, MIDs, portable hotspots, and netbooks, and is also perfectly suited for use in PCs through add-on datacards, such as USB dongles or ExpressCards, or directly embedded in PCI Express MiniCards or Half MiniCards.
